    7 March 2001 - Desperately seeking Adrian -
    Is it possible...
For us to make a new start?
To treat the past as a childish mistake and create a future that we can both enjoy and appreciate?
I was all over the place that year: Santa Barbara, Lisbon, with you in Hove, L.A., and the rest. And you, you never faltered.
You promised me your love and never did you give anything less.
I loved you then...Did I say it too late...Can we ever be friends again? I'd love to get to know you again... your pea, lighight@yahoo.com

10 Nov 99 - I am still trying to locate Robert and Audrey Harrington from the Epsom area, met on holiday at Burwell, Sept. 1998. They do not seem to be in the phone book, etc.I have some information to send them; Robert likes music, makes models and I believe used to attend an adult education class. Audrey has experience in bereavement counselling. It is likely one or both are churchgoers. Does this ring bells with anyone ? If you can help, or if they should see this, please contact John Goslin, Email: gozza@cwcom.net

23 March 2001 - Alec MacManus: I was born in 1946 . Lived in Southville Close, West Ewell until 1962. I cycled through the Bridle path between Chessington and Hook Roads to Pound Lane Primary School. In the past couple of years I have come across Andy Hedges (in Chesterfield), Rick Dolman (in Australia) and Brian Mayes (in Epsom) via email. Other names I remember clearly ( these are some of the kids who came to my birthday parties brilliantly organised by my mother) David Royle and David Smith (Diddy Miff) both from the Wells Estate, Johnny Payne (on a hospital farm). Others will come to mind as I read them
. I went off to boarding school at Caterham when we were 11+. I returned to the area each holidays but eventually lost touch as happens. After Caterham I went to St Luke's in Exeter to train as a teacher. My first job was at Therfield in Leatherhead. By this time my parents had moved to Tadworth. I married in 1967 and our first home was the top 2 stories on the Ashley Road side of Flint House.
In 1970 we emigrated to New Zealand and haven't looked back. We have 4 children and 2 grandchildren now. 1 son still at home. A daughter and both grandchildren in Otago. A daughter in Blenheim. A son who works 6 months a year in Australia and spends the other 6 months seeing the world. We live in Nelson at the top of the South Island. Our email address is apmac@xtra.co.nz

20 March 2001 Good Day All! What a magic site you have developed for Epsom/Ewell. I am developing a Tulse Hill school site and was having a dig around for information about the Priest Hill Playing Fields to which THS student were bussed for sports AND then I found your site and spent a happy hour roaming around! I live in Sydney Australia these days but my brother Sean is up in Wells Close in Epsom...small world!
The Tulse Hill School was closed in 1990 ( a peculiar Ewell/Tulse Hill link is that remains of 8 Saxon huts were found during school demolition) but if there are any memories of the school and its days at Priest Hills from 63 on (I think we were often bad boys!) we would love to hear. The THS site is living at http://members.tripod.co.uk/tulsehillschool/ if anyone would like a look.
    Cheers Patrick

br> 21 January 2001 - My name is Nigel Cook ,born Ewell and moved to Epsom aged 5 and moved away in 1970 to Southampton. We lived in the eye-sore of a house that is still obvious from the railway line through Epsom. It stands 3 1/2 stories high on the corner of Temple Rd and Hazon Way.
I went to Pound Lane primary, incidently in social contact in Southampton with a John Wiseman who went to Pound Lane 10 or so years before me. I unearthed 2 form photos of class 4G of 1966-7 ,Danetree Rd,which has every one's names on the reverse and another taken a year later with form master (English) I forget his name but the one with the seriously wobbly tooth.
I have not kept contact with any of the following people or come across their names later. Christopher Hanson,Richard Lacey,Robert Clark,Colin Braithwaite,Markham Neves,Jonathan Barter,Nigel Cook,Ian McHale,Keith Birch,Richard Goddard,Robert Howard,Peter Hancock,Ian Cook,Henry Blatchford,Christopher Stott,Linda Parsons,Elizabeth Grifiths,Christine Benewith,Linda Blenkinsop,Christine London,Janet Simpson,Sheila Walsh,Hugh Smith [form master (French teacher)]),Valerie Rose,Patricia Grifiths,Catherine Roberts,Eleanor Gibson,Philipa Knapton,Susan Gibbs and Arlette a French exchange student. I was one of the main miscreants along with Jonathan Barter. Some other teachers I remember the names of were Mr J C Romer (French) and Mr Kulkani {physics), a Mr Legat (RI). About 6 years ago I was passing through Ewell one Sunday and wandered into the school grounds and I would say there had been no change to the buildings since 1968. I went to KCFE,Kingston for A levels 1968 - 1970. Fond memories, anyone who would like to contact me ,please do,
my e-mail address is diverse@tcp.co.uk and if that should change my trading name is Diverse Devices,Southampton.

17 January 2001 - I left Epsom forty years ago, and i was very interested to find your pages on Epsom and its history. It bought back many happy memories about my schooldays, especially at Lintons Lane Secondary school, which i attended from 1957 to 1961.Perhaps people might remember some of the teachers,Mr Chappell,Mr Harris, Mr Yates, and the headmaster Mr Umpelby, and their nicknames, which i won't repeat. My friends were Lennard Grover, Michael Bishop, Roger Tribe, Harold Chessell, and David Maiden amongst others,it would be interesting to hear how they are getting on, after all these years. They can mail me on roy.blackwell@ bristol.ac.uk
3 April - Hi Roy Blackwell here, Just to let you know I have had two replies, one an old school friend who still lives in Epsom, and I have also contacted people through your website who I knew years ago, one in Australia and one in New Zealand. So carry on the good work. Regards Roy. Thanks Roy - we really appreciate this kind of feedback

22 Aug 2000 - It's lovely to read up about Epsom and Ewell. I spent three happy years as a teacher at Ewell County Secondary School, and have many memories of my time there. Perhaps one of the most memorable was an educational visit on the Nevasa to Venice, Alexandria, Israel, Malta and Gibraltar in 1966. Those were the days....!
Having settled in Bedford since the seventies, I have a website entitled "Welcome to Bedford" (www.beds.co.uk).
I notice Matt Skipp's name, in connection with a historical item, and wonder whether it is the Matt I knew who used to run a photographic shop in Stoneleigh. I have long lost touch with him, and would be delighted if someone were to give me his name, address, or even email address.
    Kind regards Robert Leggat rleggat@kbnet.co.uk

14 March 2000 - Dear Epsom and Ewell webmasters:
Thank you for bringing back many memories and bringing me up to date. I lived at Sandown Lodge in the early '70s as a schoolboy and went to Ewell County Secondary School. In the past few years I have learned about the Pre-Raphaelite connection with Epsom, but knew little about many of the other details I discovered at your site. By the way, did you know that the poet, Gerard Manley Hopkins, used to spend time in Epsom? At his uncle's, I believe. Also, just last week I came across a reference to a Ewell, Ontario. I will pass it on when I find out more about it. Thanks, again, for a terrific site. I haven't been in Epsom since 1974, and your informative pages make me want to visit. Good luck in re-connecting the E&E 'diaspora', Mark
15 Feb 2000 - I am very glad to find this page about where my family used to live from 1990 to 1992. Actually my home was located in Worcester Park, Morningside road. My working place was in City, and I walked every morning through Central road from my home to Worcester Park station.
Immediatelty after my wife and I moved in this place, my first son Hideo was born in Kingston hospital. And it was very brilliant happy honeymoon-time for us! The people around there were very kind, and some times helped us to cope with any difficulties due to our lack of knowledge of English life.
When my wife (Korean) got sick, Epsom district hospital was quite convenient to use. Now it passed almost 8 years after I came back to Japan, I still feel like my home about Worcester Park, and hope to visit again in near future.
    Michio Higashi toshin@ztv.ne.jp

3 Feb 2000 - Can anyone tell me if "The Old Girls Association" of The Convent of the Sacred Heart that used to be in Dorking Road Epsom still exists? even though the school no longer does. My name is Isobel marshall(nee Hollis) I was born in Ewell where I lived for 12 years and then moved to Epsom (Burgh Heath Road) until I left home in 1967. I attended the Convent School from 1954-1964 I then went on to train as a hairstylist in London. In 1967 I moved to Bayswater and in the space of 3 years I met my husband Allan, got married and produced our first daughter.(Margaret) In September 1970 we moved to Paulton in Somerset. Our second daughter(Clare) was born in 1972. In 1983 we moved to Wells and in 1991 I became a Wells City Councillor. In 1995 I made election legal history when an error with the counting at the local elections meant that I lost my seat on the Council and a petition had to be taken to the High Court.(I was in the limelight across national papers and local radio!) I won my case and regained my seat on the Council. In 1996 I was elected Mayor of Wells. In my capacity as such I was enpowered to give out City plaques for very deserving causes, I intended to give one to my "old School" only to discover that the "house" had become a Beefeeter restaurant or such and the rest of the site had been turned into a housing estate. I felt bereaved. I can still remember most of my Upper 5 class of 1964 and kept in touch in particular with Avis Martin (married name Lexton)who lived in north London and Cherry Stephenson (married name Chigwell) the latter lived for a time in Bath but then moved to Essex but I have lost touch with both of them. Others in my circle were Katie Morpeth, Jeanette Grice and Carol Frankland. If anyone can give me any genuine information I should be delighted to hear from them. e-mail isobelmarshall@hotmail.com

I am also looking for an old friend who lives/lived in Ewell, near Landsdowne Road. Her married name was Linda Lewis, she married my ex-wife's brother Chris. I cannot remember her maiden name! I would like to hear from her and how she is getting on.
I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada now. My name is Gerry (Gerald) Ward and I can be reached at gerryw2000@home.com or gerry@winning.com, I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information.

15 May - I was at school in Epsom (Glyn Grammar) from 1952-57. Was a perishing nuisance until the last year when I knew I would have to leave when my father became very ill. Then I realised what I was going to miss and squared up my act and won the form prize!
At Glyn there were some characters such as Dario Gradi (in my form) who is a I believe a football celebrity, and David Hemmings. Some great teachers too, who did their best to get through even to the nuisances (like me) and succeeeded. People like Dibs Debruslais, Obie Dyer, Dr Neve, Mr Dorling (with the Mk V Jag), and (despite his tendency to pull the hair) Mr Sanders. One great perosn was Butch Jones - dour as you like and everyone thought him humourless. But they were wrong, and when my family life was very tough he and his wife invited me to their home for Sundey afternoon tea. I even liked "Uncle" Ashley, despite his strictness and later heavy fall from grace. Some other staff members whom I won't mention did not look past the inconvenience factor and should never have been teaching...
Funnily enough, I came back to Epsom many years later as a teacher at Kingswood House School. Memories of the unofficial staff room - "The Cricketers" on West Hill. Many of my pupils went on to Epsom College, and I'm still in touch with may of them, including David Westcombe who is now a headmaster himself, Nichloas Witchell of the Beeb, and Nicolas Lisborg, who later came to work for me at a radiotelephone system I ran and is now in the USA with Nokia!
Regards to all. Would love to hear from you alan@acslink.net.au (Alan Ford)

I was born in 1946, attended Pound Lane Primary school, Glyn Grammer (as it was called then) @ later the Epsom @ Ewell School of art. I can be contacted on e-mail: deltaac@ozemail.com.au Regards, Richard J Dolman
    Thanks for your news.

2 Nov 1997- Hi! Nice to see my home town on the Web! Actually I am from the village of Langley Vale. I now live in Langley, British Columbia, Canada which is near Vancouver. There is also a community in the area called Epsom Downs which is in the City of Surrey! I used to live at 19 Rosebery Road. My Email is RWarriner@aol.com
It's very gratifying to know that we help people to keep in touch.

What you think about our website

20 May 2001 - This is an interesting and useful website but I much regret your blatant political bias ie your support for the ruling Residents Associations. You should be aware that the Residents Associations in Epsom and Ewell constitute a registered political party and I would expect a site such as your to be neutral between them and the other such parties in this Borough. Instead there is a page which extols the virtues of the Residents and their councillors but has nothing,as far as I can see, giving similar information about the other political parties,
Thank you for your message. For the general election, we interviewed the candidates for the 3 main political parties, and posted the interviews on a general election page.

We do give more space to the Resident Association movement than to the political parties represented in the local council for two reasons (1) because Epsom and Ewell is the only council in England still controlled by councillors nominated by local residents associations, and this merits some explanation on a community website and (2) that much more material has come forward about the RAs than from the political parties. While the Residents Associations are political in that they promote the election of councillors, their central tenet is that everybody in Epsom and Ewell, however they vote in national elections, can join together for the good of the community. This is not a tenet shared by the local political parties who promote councillors for election to the Borough Council.

We would welcome further discussion on this interesting topic.

15 April 2001 - Hello: Very much enjoyed looking around and reading the info posted on this website of Ewell and Epsom, England!! Do you have any photos or more history information on the Ewell Castle or Ewell house listed on your website?. For whom was Ewell named for?? Thanks a bunch! And Happy Easter!! Later, Jane Ewell

3 April - Hi Roy Blackwell here, Just to let you know I have had two replies, one an old school friend who still lives in Epsom, and I have also contacted people through your website who I knew years ago, one in Australia and one in New Zealand. So carry on the good work. Regards Roy.
Thanks very much for this feedback - it is really good to know that this feature was able to help you!

20 March 2001 -Good Day All!
    10 January 2001 - Gudday
Its really neat to see pictures of Epsom and surrounds. Whats the chance of a continuous webcam up the main street, say, toward the clocktower or maybe a moving camera that sweeps up and down?(!) The panoramic views are good .... how about some aerial shots. Actually at this distance any photos are neat. Thanks for your work Cheers ... Joe Khan
    - Thanks for your message which we appreciate and have posted on our bulletin board. We have wanted to put a webcam up in Epsom for some time, but until recently the telecomms costs have been prohibitive. Now they have become cheaper with ADSL, so we may be able to find someone to sponsor it. Watch this space!

8 November 2000 - would like to see a new area dedicated to hot issues. CPZ is one of those and I am sure there are many who wish to voice there opinions.
Local hot topic bulleting board. Specifically CPZ, as many views needs to be aired. Many of the issues need to be made clearer and a public bulletin board would be good. CPZ will effect Residents, local businesses and commuters whether from in or out of the borough. Regards Robin Adamson
We would like to do this, but we would have to find someone to moderate it - any volunteers?

20 October 2000 - Hi, Could you please post a message for me on your great web site? Regards Lawrence

10 Sept 2000 - Hello I live in Windsor,Ontario Canada, my Charles White Williams family comes from Epsom, Surrey area. The graphics, pictures and detailed information is an asset to my research. Thank you for providing this wonderful service, Terry Lynn

8 Sept 2000 - Hi--I found your site because I was looking for more information about epsom salts. Your page was quite helpful, but are there any local epsom businesses that sell epsom salts by mail order or over the internet? I'm sure many of us would like to know!

18 July 1999 - Hello there, I've just found these pages from the Microsoft Web site would you believe and excellent they are too! I forwarded on the address to some pen pals in the States so that they could get an idea of where I live. They liked the pages but the comment I got back, with which I must agree, was "why aren't there any photos?"

Surely the council must have some publicity shots that they own the copywrite to that they would be prepared to allow to be put on the web to promote the borough? With such a promenent listing as the Microsoft Web page these pages will be the first look that many people get of Epsom and Ewell and we should make the best of it.
We are working on this, but it is all a question of resources. This site is entirely financed from the revenue from our business pages; pictures can be quite expensive in bandwidth charges, and at present we just cant afford it. So if you know any businesses which would like more customers in Epsom, please steer them towards our new How to advertise page

We have recently posted new pictures on the Mrs. Beeton and heritage pages, just to show our heart is in the right place.

5 July - The Epsom town page was really useful. The Epsom site was a real find for me as I didn't know Epsom at all before moving here last month. It was lovely to read a bit of history, see what churches are on offier, check out the societies and find out about the parks and warden service, and even find out about the council. But the most useful thing for a new resident was the shop listings. I am still using the list, more than a month after moving. It helped me to identify which the main shopping streets were, and where I should go for particular types of shop. Opening hours would have been a bonus but I know that adding and maintaining that type of information is time-consuming.
Thanks a lot for this. We really appreciate people taking the trouble to let us know in detail what they found useful and what they would like to see improved. That helps us to direct our efforts in ways which our users find most helpful - so it benefits us all. Thanks again.

1 June - I prefer your new home page it is easier to follow

6 May - First of all, I want to congratulate you on such a fine and useful web page.

13 Mar - I like your site, keep up the good work.
    Thank you!

1Dec 1998 - I would be grateful if you would put in some information about the Epsom Cine and Video Soceity on your Clubs and societies page. Kind regards and congratulations on such a useful project.

17 November - I think the home page has improved a great deal. I have a house in Epsom but have not been there for some years. The page keeps me up to date and is good. I would like to see some articles from the newspaper though. Great job. Joy Guthrie
We are hoping to form a link with a newspaper so that we can carry some of their articles which have some lasting interest. Watch this space!

2 June 1998 - What A Site! Congratulations. It's a credit to Epsom and Ewell, and an example to other places of what can be done on the net.

29 Dec 1997 -I will be working in Epsom from February 1998 and my wife and I have been considering making Epsom our home. Coming from as far afield as Cape Town, South Africa, we appreciate the townpage and all the information is contains - it will assist us tremendously in settling down in Epsom, whether living or working.
One thing that surprises me is that there is no mention of any sports clubs. Does this mean that the town doesn't have any - that would surprise me - or that they are not listed on these pages? rrusconi@oldmutual.com (Rob Rusconi)
We are keen to list sports clubs along with all other kinds of clubs and have made a start (see society.htm). If you know of any football, rugby, tennis or other sporting club in Epsom, please ask them to write in to POBox292, Epsom, KT17 4LQ with the name and contact details and up to 5 lines about their facilities, activities, etc.

7 Dec - Well done, an easy set of pages to browse and very useful.

8 Dec - May I draw your attention to an obvious error in the Epsom salt page. Nehemiah Grew lived 1641-1712, so he probably used the name Epsom salt for the first time in 1695, not 1895.
Thanks a lot. We are grateful for such corrections, and would welcome more pages about interesting places or people connected with Epsom

12 Oct 1997 - Nice web page! Also a very useful source of reference for locals and visitors alike. I did know of its existence, but had not got around to seeing it till now.
Thanks. We are not as widely known as we would like, and we have to build traffic if we are to survive. So please tell all your friends about us. If they haven't got modems, they can access the Internet through the Bourne Hall library free Internet link!

    Ideas for developing new pages

18 Sept 2000 -My husband and I will be moving to Epsom in October (from Germany) together with our six months old baby. As I will not be working, I was wondering what activities there were on offer with a baby that age (like toddler groups, baby swimming lessons etc.). Could you provide me with further information on this or give me a contact e-mail address or phone number where I could find out more? Thank you in advance for your help. Camilla Walz E-Mail: jjfields@t-online.de
The Epsom and Ewell Borough Council has a very good booklet on this. We tried to start a "Mums&Kids" page, but it relies on help from people who have young chldren (ours are now in their twneties!) and it hasn;t got very far yet. Perhaps you would like to help when you arrive in Epsom?

5 March What about details on whats on offer for Mums/Dads with young children (places to go, Tumble Tots, etc) Or even a page whether you can meet people in the local area.
Yes, we would like to develop a page like this. If you or any other readers can kick it off with some suggestions, we will start it off. (6 April) We have now started this page, but we would like more contributions, please

Can you help trace an ancestor?

28 April 2001 - Can anyone help with my search for my ancestors. I have spent many months searching but so far have only drawn blanks. My late father Frank Leslie ILLMAN was born on 28th August 1926 at Middle House, Dorking Road, Epsom. His parents names were Frank and Edith Ellen ILLMAN. His mothers residence at his birth was as above but his fathers was a caravan, Hill Farm, Cheam, Epsom. My late father was sent away from his family at a very young age and could never remember them although he thought he may have had a sister Kathleen. If anyone out there has any information no matter how trivial it may be, could you please e-mail me at dwmartin@btinternet.com Thank you for any help you can give, I look forward to hearing from someone soon. Many Thanks Jackie Martin (nee ILLMAN) - Dwmartin@btinternet.com

14 April 2001 - My great grandmother, Elizabeth Grinter, was born in Epsom, Surry, 12 April 1871. Her sibblings were: Charles, Mary & Caroline. Mary married Alexander Matthews. I know fure sure that Elizabeth and Mary migrated to California circa 1890. Elizabeth married Edward Charles Jenkins (b.9 Dec 1863) from Kent, England. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Email at: wgcoop2@cs.com. Thanks.
11 July 2000 - I am looking for any family that may still be in or around Epsom. My Great-Great Grandfather was Thomas Aldridge, wife Julia Taylor. In the 1880's they had 12 children, first residing in Ashtead and then in Epsom around 1899, 1900. My Great Grandmother was Florence Aldridge, who married William Dunford and moved to Canada. These are the names of her siblings: Thomas, William, Percy, Maud, Mabel, Eva, Ethel, Herbert, Oliver, Leonard and Frederick Aldridge.

My Great-Great Grandfather James Dunford was born in Ewell 1852, married to Elizabeth Louisa Walters born in 1852 born in Epsom. Both are buried in Epsom.

If anyone knows any of these people, I would love to hear from you. My E-Mail is earla.d@home.com Thank you and have a great day!

26 April 2000 - I have been researching my family history for some years now. I am a descendant of Charles SMART who was an Epsom farmer and property developer in the 1800s. Charles was born in Petworth, Sussex but lived in Epsom for all his adult life. Various members of the family lived in Church St, East Street and College Road. Charles SMART died in 1872 and is buried with his 3 wives in the Churchyard at St Martins. The Vestry Minutes show him to be a contemporary of William Furniss and also involved in the the demolishing of the old Watch House, the building of the present Clock Towner in 1849, and the filling in of the unsanitary pond in the middle of the street in 1854. Other names associated with this family are JAY, BANCE, BEALL, ADDS. I live in Australia and would love to hear from anyone with connections with this family or who has information about them. Regards Janine Heggie alder_gibson@msn.com.au
3 April 2000 - I am searching for information regarding my grandfathers' family. My grandfather was Bertie Charles Pease, born in Ewell in 1887. He attended the Ewell Infants School briefly in 1893. He was somehow separated from his family at an early age and perhaps lived in a convent in the Surrey area? He eventually emigrated to Alberta, Canada as an adult. His siblings were: Mary, William, Allen, Alice, Ada,& Arthur. Their parents were William Pease, born 1849 in Wickford, Essex. I would appreciate any information. Thank you Cindy at SchroederRC@msn.com
28 October 1999 - I'm looking for information on a convent where my grandmother stayed when she was 6 years old. She was placed in a convent near Epsom/London at the age of 6, in 1907, until she was 16 and married my grandfather during the First World War. I would like to get the names of the convents in the area so that I can write to them with the above information. I am writing a Family History Book and would like more information on her side of the family. My grandfather's name was Robert Osborne Dorman. He was born on January 6th 1900 in Montreal.

8 Apr - I need information on Epson College for period of 1880's &1890's. Anyone form Epson knowing of contacts for research please email Greg at bryan@direct.ca

22 Feb - My father, Ivor Herbert Stevenson, went to a school in Epsom and apparently his name is on a board of award winners or something similar. He was born in 1909 so he would have gone to school in Epsom sometime between 1914 and 1925. Could anyone tell me which school it was likely to have been? I would like to find out more about his school days. Mark Stevenson (MXS@Walker.com )

11 Feb - Am hoping to contact any of the children of William "Willie" and "Dorrie" Wood. Their last known address (1954) was 54 Worpole Road, Epsom Surry. William (born in Epsom in 1896) was the son of Robert and Julia Wood (1918 address: 46 Albert Road, Epsom). Robert was the brother of my great grand mother Mary (Wood) Metelmann.

Hello! - I am writing to introduce our website which may be of interest to you as a link on your site! You may already be familiar with The Family Grapevine, our directory for local families. For three years The Family Grapevine has published local community telephone directories for parents with children from ante-natal to teenage. Two editions have now been published in the Epsom area. The information in The Family Grapevine is used by local people, people moving into the area and those planning a visit. 5 August 1998 - I have been searching through the internet to find information about my grandparents who were born in England around 1886. In this Book of Common Prayer of my grandmothers, my grandmother wrote about either her or my grandfather's confirmation that took place December 4, 1912 at St. Barnabas Church in Epsom. The Bishop of Guildford performed the ceremony. It was great to see that church listed on your web site. I'm still searching! Thanks Pat Hopkins cyberpod@esslink.com
PS Here is the information I have for Ernest HOMER - Baptism October 18, 1912 at St. Mary's Burgh Heath Confirmation on December 4, 1912 at St. Barnabas Epson (I guess the Bishop of Guildford officiated) Wedded to Jessie Laura Wiltshire on July 20, 1915 St. Margaret's Dby St. Andrews Church Kingswood. They went to Sydney Australia for a honeymoon - they remained there.

4 August - I am doing research on my family and came across your internet web site. My grandmother, Florence COWLEY, was born in Epsom around 1901 and was raised in a convent from the age of 6 until she was married at the age of 16 to my grandfather Robert Osborne DORMAN. Her father was William H. COWLEY and her mother was Ellen CARPENTER. She was married on August 8th, 1917 at the parish church in Epsom by Reverend John Alfred Vernon Hayes. My grandfather was born in Montreal, Canada and enlisted in the CEF (Canadian Expeditionary Force) at the age of 14. He was shipped overseas to Horsham, England.

2 June - I came across you by chance (I'm in Nottingham) while browsing for information on a family member, the late Hubert Nicholson who died in Epsom 11 January 1996 aged 87. He was a poet and novelist, and in 1950 was a founder member of the Epsom Poetry Group. I understand that the Group was still meeting regularly in 1996, and hopefully continues to do so.
I would very much like to hear from anyone who knew him, or could put me in touch with any further sources of information. I'm also keen to buy, beg or borrow copies of any of his published work not already in my possession.
