Our political parties
The Conservative Party in Epsom and Ewell has an active, campaign focused local Association. Through our local MP Chris Grayling and our local teams, we have been actively involved in a number of the most important current and recent local issues - such as the future of Epsom Hospital, the lack of school places in the Borough and the protection of our environment. Our goal is to be an active and effective part of the local community. You are welcome to join us - either to become involved in local campaigning, or if you want to attend one of our social and political events. The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.In Epsom and Ewell we have a lively and active Party. On the Borough Council we currently hold the College, Town and Woodcote Wards, giving us nine councillors, compared to 27 for the Residents Associations and 3 for Labour. Therefore we are the main Opposition Party on the Council. Details of our councillors are to be found on www.surreylibdems.org.uk. We strongly disagree with the view of the Residents Associations that political parties have no place in local government. We believe in local democracy and this means offering people a choice between differing political philosophies. Whilst proud to be part of a great national Party, we recognize that Party policy must always be adapted to local needs and circumstances.
